Our best of 2009 (or at least the most popular)

We actually resisted doing a review of 2009 (let alone the last decade) at GayVancouver.Net (Gay Vancouver Online) but we saw a great post from Rebecca Coleman who writes The Art of the Business blog, where she listed her top ten posts from 2009. And because we are not above copying a great idea (and besides, isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery) we present our Top Ten Articles for 2009 based on readership:

10. Vancouver's West End: The Gay Village

This one doesn't come as much of a surprise. The West End (and the Davie Street) area continue to be beacons to queers everywhere.

9.
Review: Studies in Motion: The Hauntings of Eadweard Muybridge

This review of the Vancouver Playhouse production was our first theatre review to be quoted in print. We're glad it made the list since it was one of the highlights for theatre in 2009. Hmm, do I see yet another "Best of 2009" list coming...

8. Red Head Wins Gay Top Model

When you look like Calan Breckon one shouldn't be surprised that it received as many hits as it did. No doubt the Google search actually contained the words "Calan Breckon" and "nude" ... we're just saying. We did have a 69 seconds with interview set to go with Calan as well but he very politely asked us not to run it - seems there is such a thing as over-exposure (pun intended).

7.
Review: Table Manners

This one caught us a little by surprise in making our list. But we're glad to see it did since we made a big deal about the show being worthy of crossing the bridge.

6.
Our Guide to Vancouver Gay Pride 2010

Pride 2009 was hardly over when we posted this article. Its popularity shows how important Vancouver Pride is to residents and visitors alike!

5. Laser Radiohead at Planetarium

Now, this was a definite shocker! Light up that doobie and let the show begin!

4.
Gay-friendly Salt Spring Island Beckons

With its idyllic location and queer friendly attitude, Salt Spring Island is definitely a jewel. No doubt this was lots of local queers looking for an easy weekend getaway.

3.
HSBC Celebration of Light

Like Pride, the annual Celebration of Light is a definite draw. A high Google ranking for this particular article when it was originally announced the fireworks had been canceled last year didn't hurt either.

2. Images from Pride 2009

We call this one Where's Waldo for the gay set. No doubt lots of our site visitors spent time looking to see if they were captured in the crowds. We've always endeavoured to be the first site with photos up from the parade and festival each year as well.

And the #1 article for 2009:

1. Our Guide to Vancouver Pride 2009

We spend a lot of time capturing all the events happening during Pride so to see this one in the #1 spot is no surprise. We predict our
Our Guide to Vancouver Gay Pride 2010 will assume this spot next January.

Some also ran articles that almost made it to our top ten list included our review of Theatre Under the Star's Thoroughly Modern Millie, our interview with Ryan Mooney who brought us Rent in August, our piece on the sale of the Winter Olympic red mittens and finally, our review of the Arts Club's production of Altar Boyz.

Here's to a great 2010!
