Movember Day 17-27: The most important discussion you can have

Since starting my fundraising efforts for Movember I have had a number of conversations with male friends and acquaintances about prostate cancer.

The number one reaction so far is it is not something that they are particularly worried about because it is an "old man's disease". Most are surprised to hear that men should actually begin screening at age 40.

Why is it important? Because 1 in 6 men will get prostate cancer. Typically there are no symptoms until it's spread beyond the prostate. Regular screening is vital as prostate cancer is 90% curable if detected and treated early. Sadly 4,400 men will die from prostate cancer in Canada this year, don't let it be someone you know.

So, if you're 40+ ask your Doctor about prostate cancer. Caught early enough it could very well be the most important discussion you will ever have.

And after you've had that discussion, consider making a donation to Prostate Cancer Canada so they can get the message out to all Canadian men.
