What's the attraction?

I must admit I never really understood the draw that Halloween has on the gay community. For me it is pretty much like any other day. But for some in our community it is, as Judy Grahn described, a "great gay holiday" on the GLBTQ calendar, right up there with Pride.

Is it because we give ourselves permission to let loose and feel safe(r) since won't be judged (after all, we're not the only ones dressed in drag or otherwise on Halloween night)?

Or maybe it is really a final acknowledgement and celebration of Gay History Month and Coming Out Day that also happen in October?

Or perhaps it is simply a leftover from an earlier time where Halloween was really the only opportunity for our community to celebrate ourselves with impunity?

Regardless of your reason for celebrating or what you plan on doing for Halloween, just remember we all don't necessarily share in your enthusiasm.

And I will not be judged because I'm the guy sitting quietly in my den at home with the porch lights off come October 31st.
