The fat lady has sung...

Actually, there were no fat ladies, just the finale for the 21st edition of the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. 71 movies in 11 days. We only managed to scratch the surface but, with apologies in advance for the cliche, we must say this was simply the best festival ever. And only hours after the closing gala screening of Muñeca, we are already planning on how we can take in even more of the films and festivities than we did this year!

With the election of Chile's first female President as the backdrop,
Muñeca is a hugely layered film exploring friendship, love, sex and one woman's desire for a child. Simultaneously making us squirm in our seats and laugh-out-loud, Muñeca was a satisfying ending to this year's Festival. 3.5 out of 5.

My only disappointment this year? My pick for audience favorite, Ready? Ok!, didn't take home the prize. That honour went to
I Can't Think Straight. Other awards included The Portside for best short, Gerry Brunet Memorial Award (best BC film) went to Naoka-San by Rika Moorhouse and Best International Feature was actually a tie between City of Borders and Soundless Wind Chime.
