Avoid the post-Pride depression - go see Pride in Art!

My boyfriend really takes it hard. A week of parties, activities, friendship and fun that was the 2009 Vancouver Gay Pride week invariably leads to a slight depression as our days (and nights) return to normal.

One way to ease out of this post-Pride depression though is the
Pride in Art Festival that continues at the Roundhouse Community Centre through August 14th.

Along with the art exhibition in the main hall there is also something happening most every night - from Taiko Drum lessons to music and theatre events.

Last night (August 4th) we took in the first show of Screaming Weenies'
Clean Sheets with a staged reading of Heather's String Theory by Barry Jack Jenkins from Whitehorse. Our first reaction was to compare it to Boys Don't Cry but despite its similar theme there were some great performances and it did illicit a great deal of conversation on the way home (and for me that is really what theatre is all about).

Clean Sheets continues again tonight (August 5th) with two more staged readings at 6:30pm and 8pm. Up next is Queerotica, an evening of live readings of sexy queer fiction and poetry, on August 6th (its free!).

Pride in Art Festival website.
